FAQ

Q:    What is Fort Wayne Dancesport?
A:    Fort Wayne Dancesport (FWD) is a local chapter (number 2046) of USA Dance, Inc., serving the greater Fort Wayne, Indiana area. Read more on our “About FWD” page.

Q:    When and where are your chapter’s dances?
A:    Our chapter hosts monthly dances, usually (but not always) on the second Saturday of the month on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. For a complete schedule of upcoming dances, including dates, times, locations and admission prices, see our “FWD Events” page.

Q:    Are your dances open to non-members?
A:    Yes, all are welcome at our dances, although members receive a discount on the admission fee.

Q:    How can I join?
A:    You can join at any dance, or visit our “Join/Renew” page for membership information.

Q:    What if I’ve never danced before?
A:    Most of our dances include a group lesson prior to the dance. Lessons are designed to enable even first-time dancers to learn at least the basic steps of one dance (a different dance each month). No experience is necessary. To learn what dance will be taught at each dance, see our “FWD Events” page.

Q:    What should I wear to a chapter dance?
A:    The dress code for most chapter dances is “smart casual, no jeans.” Dance shoes are recommended but street shoes are welcome. Athletic shoes (“sneakers”) are not recommended, because they do not allow feet to easily turn on the dance floor. When there is an exception to the dress code, it is indicated within the individual dance’s notice on our “FWD Events” page.

Q:    Are singles welcome at your chapter dances, or must I bring a partner?
A:    Singles are welcome and no partner is necessary. Our membership comprises dancers of all levels who are eager to share dances with newcomers.

Q:    Who can I contact for more information?
A:    See our “Contact Us” page for a current list of officers and board members. In addition, the email address This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it always reaches our chapter president, whoever that is at the moment.
