Home of the First Special Olympics Ballroom Dance Competition in the USA

Welcome! Our mission is to improve the quality and the quantity of ballroom dancing in the United States. Fort Wayne Dancesport is chapter #2046 of USA Dance, Inc. (formerly the U.S. Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association). USA DANCE is a volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization serving as the National Governing Body for Dancesport in the USA - Member of the International Dance Sport Federation (IDSF) and an Affiliate Member of United States Olympic Committee (USOC)

March Ballroom Dance

leprechaunThe March Fort Wayne Dancesport Ballroom Dance isscheduled for Saturday, March 13, 2010, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at IPFW's Walb Memorial Ballroom. The theme is "wearing of the green." Doors open at 7 p.m. A group lesson in hustle taught by Marcy Haataja begins at 7:15 p.m. General dancing begins at 8:15 p.m. Other information is available at the top of our "FWD Events" page.

Dance Admission Price Increase

We moved to Walb Ballroom for our dances in September, 2000 and the general dances held by USA Dance Fort Wayne Dancesport cost adult members $6.00 and student members $3.00 and adult non-members $10.00 and student non-members $5.00 for a group lesson given by some of the finest instructors in our area; three hours of dancing on one of the largest dance floors in the area and access to a snack table. Wow that is a lot of bang for your buck! That was ten years ago and there have been no fee raises in that time. Effective January 1, 2010 the fees will be changed. The following fees will apply to all USA Dance Fort Wayne Dancesport dances unless other wise stated on individual monthly dance promotion information.

Adult members $10.00
Student members $5.00
Adult non-members $15.00
Student non-members $8.00

We regret the need to increase our dance fees but we are being charged more and do not plan to reducing the dance opportunity our monthly dances provides so an increase is needed. At each dance there will be a ticket given to each person attending that gives you one free drink (soft drink or bottled water) at the snack table, thus donations will be made only for any drinks after the first one.

Our dress code remains the same "Smart Casual and NO JEANS" unless we are having a special theme dance and those will be noted. We apologize for needing to raise the fees but 2010 plans for outstanding dances will continue to make your dancing opportunities worth the increase. Check us out 260-494-3185 or fwdancesport.org and watch for our new e-mails and watch for us on FACEBOOK!

Special Olympics Matching Donations Reach Goal

The board of USA Dance FWDancesport #2046 wish to thank the individuals who helped us attain this matcing goal of $1,000 and we wish to thank the individual who made the initial donation of $2,000. All of these funds are to be used for training of Special Olympics athletes in the art of ballroom dancing to prepare them for the annual competition to be held July 31 & August 1, 2010 right here in Fort Wayne, Indiana along with the USA Dance FWDancesport annual amateur ballroom dance competition. Happy New Year and Dancing is for Everyone!

Dance Cancellation Procedure

Chapter president Dave Hans has announced a new procedure through which the chapter will communicate should it be necessary to cancel a dance (due to snow or other reasons). In such a case, the chapter will take the following steps:

  • Our web site will have a statement in red on the front page stating that the dance has been cancelled and giving the reaons for the cancellation.
  • The chapter will attempt to have the cancellation announced by local television and radio stations.
  • Chapter members will be given the opportunity to provide their cellular telephone numbers so that they may receive cancellation notices via text message.
  • Cancellation notices will be sent via the chapter's email mailing list. (Subscribe to the list.)
  • The chapter will post a notice on the doors at the dance venue (e.g. the IPFW Walb Student Union building).
  • The chapter will place an announcement on the voice mail system at the following telephone number: (260) 494-3185. This number will be available for such information only on the day of a dance.

Chapter Going "Green"

Go to the Online "Going Green" Registration Form.

Fort Wayne Dancesport plans to "go green" to help the environment and to reduce chapter expenses. The chapter's "going green" plan includes the following components:

  • The chapter's monthly newsletter would be made available online, rather than printed and mailed to each member.
  • Twice a month, the chapter would send a special email message to all members, updating them on current dance events.
  • The chapter would make information about its monthly dances available via a recorded telephone message. The message could be heard by dialing 260-494-3185 and selecting Option 1.

Chapter leaders are soliciting member opinions on this plan. To comment, send a letter to Chapter President Dave Hans at the following address:

USA Dance Fort Wayne Dancesport #2046
PO Box 13484
Fort Wayne IN 46869-3484

Alternatively, you may leave a voice message for Dave at 260-494-3185 or send email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The chapter plans to test its email mailing list system on November 23, 2009. If you do not receive an email message from the chapter on that date, that means that the chapter does not have your current, correct email address.

To make sure you don't miss any chapter communications, please complete and mail the form that appeared in the November issue of the chapter newsletter, or submit a form online:
